This type of bond is used to ensure that the government is reimbursed for any public assistance that the alien may accept during the course of his/her case. Alien’s accepting these public benefits will be deemed a “public charge” and the obligor will have 30 days after notice to reimburse these funds. Any amounts paid directly to DHS, which are not surrendered to the public authority providing the assistance, will be deposited into the Breached Bond Detention Fund.
